Meet the Pastor
Hello,
I’m Pastor Paul Alonso, and this is my lovely wife, Gwen. At Wahoo Church, we’re proud to be “The Church with a Difference”—offering a space free from legalism, judgment, and dress codes. Come and join our welcoming community, where we embrace each other’s imperfections and celebrate everyone’s unique journey.
My Story
I was born and raised in Tampa as a 'Preacher's Kid,' with my dad being the biggest influence in my life and my parents as amazing role models. My wife, Gwen, and I have two daughters, Shannon and Stephanie. Shannon and her husband, DJ Martinez have two children, Isabella and Mason; Stephanie and her husband, Zach Edmonds have two children, Emma and Graham.
I graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a degree in Pastoral Ministries and later completed my degree in Biblical Studies from the Baptist College of Florida. I am also a Certified Church Consultant. I’ve been at Wahoo Baptist Church since 2012, after previously serving as associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace.
One of my greatest passions is revitalizing churches, helping them renew their mission, strengthen their ministries, and better serve their communities for lasting impact. My heart is especially for dying churches, working to help them come back to life by guiding them through strategic renewal and spiritual growth. Since arriving at Wahoo, I’ve been blessed to lead the church through a revitalization process, helping it grow in vision, ministry effectiveness, and outreach. Gwen and I are excited about the opportunities ahead and are committed to serving God however He leads.
